Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) presents its monthly social well-being indices. The empirical basis for calculation of the indices that underlie dynamic series - are monthly “Express” opinion polls data conducted by VCIOM in 46 regions of Russia in 138 sampling points (1600 respondents) using representative nationwide sample (taking into account age, sex, education and territorial zoning quotas of the State Committee of Statistics).
Public Mood Indices are based on the following Indicators:
Methods of the Calculation of Public Mood Indices
The empirical basis for the calculation of indices that underlies dynamic series are monthly "Express" opinion polls conducted by VCIOM using representative nationwide sample. The method that we use for analysis and visualization of the data obtained in the course of the study is the method of construction index calculation.
The indices for each of the indicators are calculated as a variance between the sum of positive and average evaluation and the sum of negative evaluations.
J = S positive and average evaluation - S negative evaluation
Different types of methods are used to calculate the indices in research and analytical practices of different research centers which deal with public opinion studies
The key motive for constructing this model is to identify the correlation between positive and negative public attitudes. The possibility to get negative values (in case of predominance of negative moods over positive) allows to determine the "critical points" in public mood, and, what is more important, - in real situation.
Proximity or remoteness of the indices from OX axis demonstrates the presents (or absence) of such "critical points".
